The most famous and oldest pilgrimage place in Bilaspur, Vyas Gufa is a cave situated on the left bank of River Sutlej, at an altitude of 610 meters above sea level. It is believed to be the cave where Maharshi Vyas, performed his meditation and penance. It lies between the old and new Bilaspur Township. According to the folklore, Bilaspur was once known as Vyaspur, after the Rishi's name. It is about 0.5 Km. distance from district head quarters.
Astonished to look at that cave from outside; the hill was in a structure of a massive book,
even the pages were visible. The hill is called Vyas pothi on the accounts of river Saraswati
also Rock formation inside the Vyas Gufa appears to resemble the orderly stacking of palm
leave manuscripts - oldest writing material and is worshipped as Vyas Pusthak.
